Is your house number easily visible?
Wednesday, 14 July 2010

If you had an emergency at your house, would the emergency responders be able to find you?  Please ensure your house number is clearly visible from the road.  Having your street number only on a mailbox by the road does not always help us find the house!  Reflective signs are available from the Evans City VFD for just $15.  Stop by on a Monday evening or e-mail This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it to get a sign to mark your house!

On June 21, members of Station 20 were fortunate to have a second donated vehicle in two weeks to cut up for training purposes. Firefighter Wilbert donated his own vehicle to be cut up for scrap. Lieutenant Marshall led the lesson in how to remove pieces of a vehicle in order to remove a patient from the vehicle. The "accident" was presented as a vehicle on its side. After stabilizing the vehicle using Rescue 42 struts, the tailgate was removed using hydraulic tools. The back seat was then removed, which allowed us to access the "patient" in the driver's seat. As another option for access, the roof was then cut off using a Sawz-all and hydraulic cutters. The vehicle was then righted and all four doors were cut off using hydraulic cutters and spreaders. A dash roll was then worked on, which lifts the dash up and away to allow access to the patient's legs. Finally, the back section of roof was removed, as well as various panels around the vehicle. For those who attended, the drill provided valuable practice with the hydraulic tools. Check out the photos above, as well as several more photos in the gallery.

On April 2, Station 20, along with Station 3, assisted Station 12 at a garage fire on Main St. in Connoquenessing Boro. Station 12 crews arrived first on scene and quickly extinguished the bulk of the fire. Station 20 crews soon arrived and assisted with overhaul. Firefighter Cratty got some firsthand experience with Lieutenant Schoeffel and Firefighter Wilbert assisting.
